What is a jeep dolly used for?
A jeep dolly (also called a heavy haul jeep) is designed to help haul special or oversized loads by spreading the load and its cargo over more axles. It's normally used with a dolly and/or booster as a unit attached to a lowbed trailer, which lets the trailer carry heavier or longer loads safely.
Do I need a jeep, a booster, or both?
A jeep attaches to the front of the trailer to add axles and spread weight, while a booster attaches to the rear. Longer or heavier loads often need both to stay within axle weight limits and meet road regulations.
What should I check before bidding on a used jeep dolly?
Check the axles, suspension and tires for wear from carrying heavy loads, inspect the hitch and connection points for cracks or excessive play, and confirm the rated capacity matches the loads you plan to haul.
